After graduating with a first class degree three years ago, I worked up to a lead associate position as a visual merchandiser for a leading high street store in two years.
I have taken the last six months to work in voluntary placements, enabling me to gain valuable experience across a wide range of different organisations. Furthering my skills particularly within communication, team work and confidence. It has also helped me to identify the areas of work I enjoy and wish to grow in.
I have undertaken positions as a classroom assistant, play assistant, gardening at Newstead Abbey and exhibiting personal work in a photography show.
Working as a play assistant within the family room at the Arches Project, a support centre for those in need across Nottingham, I have been challenged with children of various ages, disadvantaged backgrounds and varying cultures providing a fun and creative place each week for children to enjoy and be productive.
I have led creative play in making animal masks, paper windmills, cards for special occasions, general collage and paint.
Helping also on the “eat, chat, play” team I have supported sessions based around particular topics i.e. the seaside to provide a weekly activity that teaches them about that topic.
Seeing these children on a weekly basis has enabled me to build up good relationships.
I have also been volunteering for Reach a charity run organisation that provides day classes for young adults with learning disabilities. Helping within an art session I have enabled the class to run efficiently supporting the teacher through the organisation of materials and assisting clients with practical tasks; writing, spelling, sewing.
Being part of a family who has fostered over the last ten years I have grown up around children with a range of needs. Teaching me patience, sharing, and responsibilities. This also led to my first job independently looking after two children aged three, and five for a twelve hour day at the age of sixteen. Within the six weeks I successfully taught them the alphabet.
I am looking to develop my skills and interests in child care through a nanny position. As a creative and caring person I use my initiative and work hard.
