Hello. My name is Ros. I have always loved looking after children. Before I married and had children of my own I took two nannying jobs. The first was live-in and I looked after 4 children, aged 8, 7, 3 and 1 and also cooked, ironed and did light housework. The second was for two children aged 7 and 9. I had the same responsibilities but didn't live in.
I then married and had my own daughters. My first was born when I was 21. I became part of a babysitting circle where I lived, looking after lots of other children of all ages; (the circle comprised of around 20 different families). I was very hands-on with my daughters - always finding different and fun things to do with them. I didn't work until they were school age and then took a part-time job which ended before they left school for the day. As they grew older I was very hands-on with their education, helping with homework and projects. I loved all this!
I now have 4 grandkids and have always been very actively involved in their childcare although I had a full-time job which I have now stopped. Daniel (9) and Charlie (7) live in Northern Ireland so I don't see them nearly often enough but the other two are 5 minutes' walk from me. They are Ella - who's 12 and Jack who's just turned 7. I love having conversations with them about anything and everything they want to talk about.
I have been a full-time executive assistant for years and don't want to do it anymore. I want to return to my first love which has always been looking after children. I don't have any professional qualifications in childcare - just heaps of life experience, a resourceful attitude and lots of love to give!
I am currently training to be a reading helper with the charity, Beanstalk which will involve 3 hours a week in a local school. The charity have applied for a Disclosure and Barring Service check for me which should come through next week.
While I worked at Ernst & Young I also got involved in the reading mentoring scheme they ran for local schools. I loved this too.
To summarise then - I love children of all ages. I am educated to University level. I have a good knowledge of French and Italian. I'm looking for part-time childcare work and happy to clean the house as well! I've been told I'm a very good cook. (Charlie has said I should be a "cooker"!)
I've just turned 60 but Ella says I look 45 (high praise from a 12 year old!!). I'm healthy and swim for 30 minutes twice a week so have a good level of fitness. I have loads of energy and endless patience!
I would be very happy to answer any queries you have over the phone if this helps.
With my very best wishes
Ros
