Florence, garde enfant à Mississauga

I am currently in the Concurrent Education program (Primary/Junior stream) and Music program (as a classical pianist) at York University. I have plenty of experience with children (babies to grade 6) through placements, volunteering, babysitting, and working as a piano teacher. I am currently teaching beginner piano part time to children from ages 4-12. In addition, I am currently doing my placement in a grade 4 classroom as a teacher candidate of the Concurrent Education program and have taught math and physical education. For the past 2 summers, I worked as a summer student where I supported children and youth with disabilities in Toronto. I helped foster an inclusive environment for the individual as they participated in activities in camps and the community. Last school year, I have completed my placement in a grade 3 classroom and have taught language, art, drama, and have occasionally helped out with social studies. Prior to that, I have completed my placement at the Ontario Early Years Centre at the Jane and Finch location in 2014. I was with children under the ages of 4 by helping to supervise, setting up activities, and playing with them, and joining in music and dance time. I have also had co-op experience at an elementary school in Mississauga as a teacher’s assistant in a grade 2 classroom. I have taught lessons mostly pertaining to the arts like drama, music, and visual arts. I supervised the children and helped with those who participated in choir. I am currently volunteering at my church's children’s ministry. Since 2011, I have been a teacher’s helper on most Sunday mornings in their Kingdom Kids program. I assisted in classes of children from JK to grade 5 and volunteered to take care of the babies in the nursery. I would help with set up, leading games, crafts, story telling and singing.

I am very passionate about the arts especially music. I have played piano for 10 years and I have performed in recitals, composed some pieces, and improvise. I enjoy performing at events as a pianist or bassist with my band. In my spare time, I will jam to some pop or musical theatre with my friends. In addition, I have volunteered to play piano, ukulele, and/or sing at the hospital and retirement home. Furthermore, I have played the flute for all 4 years of high school, participating in the band and performing for the community. I have been in the high school choir as well for all 4 years. I also enjoy the arts. I help children with their crafts when I volunteer and I like to draw and occasionally paint. I am also very fond of animated films which has inspired me to cosplay. It is a new favourite hobby of mine where I attend conventions role playing as a character with a costume I design.
