Jessica Lauren, garde d’enfant ponctuelle à Madrid

My name is Jessica and I am from Belfast in Northern Ireland. I have dual citizenship, so I am Irish/British and hold both passports to remain an E.U. citizen. I have a 2:1 honours degree in Spanish and English from Queens University Belfast and a B1/intermediate level of Spanish. I have experience with children from age 2 through to age 13 through my previous language assistant position in a primary school in Valencia (2018-19). I also babysat children in the city after school in order to earn some extra money, and found it was my favourite part of the experience. We would meet after school and walk to the park, then come home and play games, help with homework and speak in English. I have volunteered in Girls Brigade in Belfast for 3 years prior to my time in Spain and achieved an introduction to child safety certificate to care properly for the children ages 3+. Similarly, I am a TEFL certified English tutor as I have achieved online a 120 hour professional TEFL qualification. However, all of this experience means very little in comparison to my love for the job. I have spent my life around children as I am the oldest in a large family, and when I moved to Spain I found a way to join my love of children and language by passing English on to children in Spain. My family are the most important people in my life, and I believe they are the reason I am such a resilient and passionate person today. Learning English is invaluable to children, but having a teacher who is also a close friend or almost like a member of the family can allow them to deepen their understanding of the language and culture profoundly. I believe I can be an asset to any child's language learning and hope to have more wonderful relationships with children and families in Spain this year while I live in Madrid!
