Nicole, garde d’enfant à domicile à Clydebank G81

Hi,

I am currently looking to start a career in childcare. I would feel most comfortable working with children between the ages of 0-11 because this is where my experience lies, however if given a job with someone outside this age bracket I am confident that I would grow more comfortable with other ages. Unfortunately I am now 20 years old so find it difficult to receive any kind of training as most childcare apprenticeships are for 16-19 years.
From a young age I have been looking after people. Since I can remember I have been caring for my mum when needed after finding out she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by varying degrees of weakness of the skeletal (voluntary) muscles of the body. This made me eager to always help people when possible.
When I was 12 my auntie gave birth to my only baby cousin. Since she's been born I have always made it my priority to make sure she is cared for not only by her parents. When my cousin turned 6 months, my aunt's maternity leave ended which meant Carys (my cousin) would need further care. My mum volunteered to care for her as she couldn't work due to her illness which meant I got to look after Carys everyday after school. At first it was just feeding, changing nappies etc. but as she got older there was more opportunities to do more practical things such as playing games, trips to the park and partaking in gymnastics practice. Once I left school I used to collect her from school and kept her entertained until her mum was finished work.
Two years ago my mum found out she was pregnant which meant there would be a new baby in the family. My brother was born in August 2015 and I have been there to help out every day since. My brothers dad is currently living in Leeds so only see's him around 4 times a year. This makes me want to care more as I know it can be hard when parent's aren't at home. Although he is only 11 months I enjoy giving my mum a break by taking part in outdoor activities such as going long walks and taking him to the beach on sunny days.
I know childcare is something I would be good at as a profession as it makes me happy knowing I'm making a difference to a child's day. If given the chance I can assure that my employer would be proud of the hard work I put in.
