Lindsay, nourrice - YO32 Strensall

Hi there. My name is Lindsay. I am 28 years old and have a vast amount of experience working with children, so of which I have listed below.

When I was 18 I attended a programme called Camp America which is a summer camp for children aged 5-15 years. I worked as a camp counsellor/lifeguard where I spent a lot of time of the lake teaching swimming, kayaking and canoeing. I lived in cabins with the children (usually around 10 children per cabin) and it was part of my role to organise the daily activities to keep the children entertained. It was an amazing experience!

I have a BA (hons) degree in English and Educational Studies. During my time at university I completed three separate placements in nurseries/primary schools.

I have worked in a primary school as a teaching assistant; I was mainly based in a reception/year 1 mixed class. During this position I was in charge of the paired reading scheme where I use to spend a lot of time listen to and helping the children read. I also completed a phonics course as part of my training whilst at this school.

I have just spent the past 15 months in Australia where I worked as an au pair. I lived with two different families during my time there. The first family had three children aged 3, 5 and 11. The second family had two children aged 5 and 8.

I am going back to university in March to do a masters degree in Occupational Therapy, with the intention to then specialise in working with children.

I am a very caring and patient person and I love all things arts and crafts. I love working with children because they are so interesting and I find that I tend to learn a lot about not only the child/ren I'm caring for but also about myself.
